Our People

Colin Carefoot image

Colin Carefoot

Managing Director

Colin started his working career as an apprentice HGV mechanic for W & J Ridings in Longridge. In 1988 he moved to the transport department at Carefoot as Transport Assistant. He worked his way through the ranks to Transport Manager then Director. His role within the Company changed dramatically however, as his father’s health began to deteriorate and by 2001 Colin found himself as Managing Director of the Group. Colin has continued to build on his father’s success expanding and developing the family business and it’s excellent reputation with the support of Charles and Stuart. Since Colin took over Carefoot, the Company has continued with a strong order book and healthy balance sheet. Colin is known for being commercially astute in his reasoning however his focus always remains on the Customer and their satisfaction. To this end he drives the work ethic of “zero defects” and is always seeking out ways for the Company to continually improve and be better than its competitors.

Charles Carefoot image

Charles Carefoot

Commercial Director

Charles joined Carefoot back in 1976 after studying a BSc in Quantity Surveying at Nottingham Polytechnic and working at BDP and Thornber & Walker.  Charles always wanted to join the family firm, but was never pressured to do so by his father. He had the opportunity to start on two major projects at the same time, 40 houses for Ribble Valley Borough Council in Chipping, and the doubling in size of Longridge County Secondary School. Highlights of his career include attending the Official Opening of Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School in Blackburn by HM the Queen and Prince Philip, being elected President of the Lancashire Branch of the RICS two years running and being elected President of the Preston and District Branch of the National Federation of Builders during Guild year.  Charles has a reputation in the industry for being a gentleman by being fair in financial matters and respectful to others in the roles they perform. Clients consistently comment on his conscientious and approachable manner. Charles undertakes his busy workload with enthusiasm and is still active on projects as a Quantity Surveyor, his knowledge and experience often being invaluable. He enjoys coming to work everyday and not knowing what it will bring, being a part in the continuing growth and development of the Company, and working with a great team of colleagues.
